For more than 90% of the fans around The League, things didn’t really get started until today. As such, I was clearly obligated to wear socks appropriate for the Bengals’ first game of the year.
If I’m being honest, I probably should have gotten a better pair to rep the team. This pattern of footballs is fine, but tigers or stripes or something would have been better*. Especially when you consider that I bought the single most expensive socks of the entire year in support of the Reds on Opening Day, way back in April. But way back in the 90’s, I swore to myself and the memory of Successful Bengals Past that I would not give Mike Brown (the team’s owner) another dollar of my money until they won a playoff game again. I’ve been waiting a long time, and with two notable exceptions, I’ve kept my promise.
So: no officially licensed Cincinnati Bengals socks for me. If Mike Brown (or anyone, I suppose) wants me to have a pair to wear on game day, he’s going to have to send them to me.
In lieu of that, though, at least I did have this pair for the first Sunday of the 2018-19 campaign. And as an added bonus, my Bengals actually came away with a win today. Who knows? Maybe this year will finally be the year that makes buying Bengals socks okay aga.
*I actually did have a pair of tiger socks, but unfortunately, wore them last month during Animal Week.
